Cross County Gears Up for the 24th Annual Bradley Open

CHICAGO - After a solid warm-up at the DePaul Opener, the men's and women's cross country teams race on at the 24th Annual Bradley Open in Peoria, Ill. on Fri., Sept. 11.  Held at Detweiller Park, the meet opens with a men's 8K slated for 5:30 p.m. (CST), followed by a 5K women's trek a 6:15 p.m.

The Blue Demon's enter a field of competition that includes squads from Ashford, Bradley, Carl Sandburg College, Elgin Community College, Illinois, Illinois Central, Illinois Wesleyan, Indiana State, Lincoln College, Monmouth College, Morton College, St. Ambrose, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, Saint Joseph's College, North Central College, and Lewis.  Both the men's and women's race will feature around 200 competitors.

Last week at the DePaul Opener, sophomore Matthew Graham improved upon his third place finish from the year before, winning the men's four mile race.  With a time of 19:34, Graham broke the course record by over a minute and set a new career-best pace of 4:53.6 per mile.  Jakub Kolacz contributed a third place finish after clocking a time of 20:03.

Toni Salvatore paced the Blue Demons for the first time in her career, crossing the finish line at the 15:08 mark to place 12th overall.  Mary Cate Quiett and Stephanie Hughes finished right behind her, coming in at 13th and 14th, respectively.

DePaul last raced at Detweiller Park on Sept. 7, 2006, when the men's team took second and the women finished in sixth.  Of the current Blue Demons, current senior Luke Rygh placed 15th overall behind an 8K time of 25:58, while Kolacz was the 20th runner to cross the line at 26:16.  Greg Udzielak posted a time of 27:36.  On the women's side, then-freshman Cheatham was the second DePaul student-athlete to complete the course, logging a time of 19:05 to finish in 15th place overall.
