Next Stop: AU Spartan Classic

CHICAGO The DePaul men’s and women’s cross country teams continue their season this Friday at the AU Spartan Classic in Aurora, Illinois.  A select squad of Blue Demons join other institutions in the greater Chicagoland area on the Oakhurst Forest Preserve for a 6K women’s race at 4:30 p.m. (CST) and an 8K men’s trek slated for 5:15 p.m.

A strong group of freshman, including Kim Boisvert, Erin Lakie, and Stacy Schmitz look to lead the women along with veteran runner Lauren Bales

Last week, at the Fordham Fiasco in Bronx, N.Y., Boisvert and Lakie tackled the challenging VanCortlandt Park course with matching 5K times of 20:57 to help lift their team to a sixth place finish.  Schmitz remained in Chicago, where she paced the Blue Demons on a 5.29K course at the Ted Hedstrand Invitational with a 12th place finish in a time of 21:44 (converted 5K time of 20:33).

The young men’s team is led by senior Ryan Solomon.  Last week, in New York, he placed in DePaul’s top-five with an 8K time of 28:53.

A supporting cast of freshmen are also scheduled to run in Aurora.  Brian Begalke was the top finisher for the Blue Demon’s at last week’s Ted Hedstrand Invitational with an 8.43K time of 29:40 (converted 8K time of 28:10).  Dan Steinfels contributed a time of 29:18 (28:15) to lift the team to a fifth place finish.
