Rygh and Moffett Lead Women to Second-Place Finish
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Behind Leah Rygh and Erin Moffett, the DePaul women’s cross country team took second in the 31-team National Catholic Invitational at Notre Dame on Friday afternoon. Rygh placed third overall with Moffett just behind her in fourth place.
Rygh posted a time of 17:55 in the women’s 5,000-meter race. Moffett was just behind in fourth place with a mark of 18:10. Notre Dame took the top two spots led by individual winner, Stephanie Madia, at 17:38.
Marlene Key and Carrie Moffett were the next two finishers for the Blue Demons in 18th and 21st, respectively. Key finished in 18:59 while Moffett clocked a time of 19:08. Maureen Kuhta rounded out the scoring for the Blue Demons in 41st with a time of 19:38. There were 254 total student-athletes competing.
Notre Dame won the team title with 28 points followed by DePaul’s 87 points and Gonzaga’s 164 points. Bellarmine and Xavier finished the top five in the team standings.
Up next for the Blue Demons is the Sean Earl – Lakefront Invitational. The annual meet takes place on Saturday, Oct. 2 at Montrose Beach in Chicago.
