29th Annual National Catholic Championships
CHICAGO The DePaul men’s and women’s cross country teams continue their season this Friday at the 29th Annual National Catholic Championships in Notre Dame, Indiana. The Blue Demons join Catholic institutions from across the nation on the Notre Dame Golf Course for a 5K women’s race at 3:15 p.m. (CST) and an 8K men’s trek at 4 p.m.
DePaul joins more than 30 squads in a field of competition that includes BIG EAST Conference rivals Notre Dame and St. John’s. Notre Dame men and women are currently ranked No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, in the Great Lakes Regional Rankings.
In the last three weeks, sophomore Mary Cate Quiett and junior Terah Cheatham led the women’s squad to a third place finish at the DePaul Opener and a sixth place finish at the Fordham Fiasco. Each took turns pacing the team as Cheatham placed third overall at the opener, and Quiett placed 13th at Fordham..
Freshman Matthew Graham was top finisher for the Blue Demons in both races this season. During the DePaul Opener, Graham placed third to lift his team to a third place finish. Following a second place performance at the Fordham Fiasco, Graham was named BIG EAST Cross Country Athlete of the week. Also running strong for DePaul was junior Jakub Kolacz, who placed eighth at the opener, while placing 10th at Fordham.
The 2007 National Catholic Championships saw DePaul finish fifth in both the men’s and women’s standings. Notre Dame claimed both team titles, while Mike Anderson of Dayton won the men’s individual crown and Notre Dame’s Marissa Treece won the women’s race.
