CHICAGO – The men’s and women’s cross country team will be in action on Saturday along Chicago’s lakefront at the 32nd annual Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational. The meet, featuring over 50 collegiate teams among high school and elementary programs, takes place at Montrose Beach.
Previously known as Lakefront Invitational, the invite race was renamed the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational in 2000. The meet honors former Loyola student-athlete Sean Earl, who passed away in February of 2000 after a battle with cancer.
The invite features an open 5k race, a 2k race for elementary boys and girls, and a 5000m for both high school freshman/sophomore teams and varsity squads. The collegiate division (5,000m run for women; 8,000m run for men) will be split into two divisions this year, Maroon and Gold. The Gold division will consist of Division I teams and the Maroon will consist of Division II, III and NAIA teams.
Following the meet, the team will gather next to the harbor for a post-race team picnic.
