Becknek Paces Blue Demons at BIG EAST Championship

BRONX, N.Y. – Junior co-captain Anthony Beckneck paced the Blue Demons at the BIG EAST Cross Country Championships, Friday at Van Cortlandt Park.  The men's team finished in fifteenth place while the women took thirteenth overall.

 

Beckneck completed the five mile course in 26:13 for a 48th place. Sophomore Kyle Ferry crossed second for the Blue Demons and finished in a season-best 27:47, for 79th place.

 

Junior co-captain Carrie Moffett paced the Blue Demon women for the fifth time this season, completing the 6K course in 23:01, for 46th place.  Maureen Kuhta (24:01) and Emily Prettyman (24:42) were the next two DePaul runners to finish the race.  Prettyman's time of 24:42 was a season best.

 

Notre Dame swept the men's and women's BIG EAST Championship titles, while Martin Fagan of Providence recorded what is believed to be the fastest collegiate time ever at Van Cortlandt Park with a mark of 23:48. Curt Benninger of Notre Dame finished in second in the men's race with a time of 24:09  and also broke the BIG EAST record at the conference site. Providence's Fiona Crombie won the individual women's title, crossing the finish in 20:50.

 

The Blue Demons will be back in action on November 12, when they run at the NCAA Midwest Regional in Iowa, City.
