CHICAGO – After nearly two months’ worth of meets, the DePaul men’s and women’s cross country squads close out their respective BIG EAST Conference seasons with the BIG EAST Cross Country Championships on Saturday afternoon in Louisville, Ky.

Both the men’s and women’s teams are hoping the conference championship serves as a rebound from a shaky outing two weeks ago at the Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind.

On the men’s side, the Blue Demons are led by Matthew Graham who has already tallied two BIG EAST weekly awards this season, upping his career total to eight. The Glasgow native looks to collect his first BIG EAST Cross Country Championship win after already clocking first-place times at the UIC Home Opener and the National Catholic Championships this year.

At the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic—held on the same course as the BIG EAST Championship—Graham took home a fifth-place finish. Graham is looking to improve upon his third-place finish last season in the BIG EAST Championship men’s 8K race where he crossed the finish line at 25:08.1.

Also expected to post solid times on the DePaul men’s side are juniors Zak Koronkiewicz and Tyler Schmitt who have both led the Blue Demon pack on multiple occasions this season. Sophomore Chris Miedema has also frequently been in the mix among the DePaul men.

For the women, senior Toni Salvatore has been a steady competitor since she returned to competition at the Greater Louisville Classic after missing the first two meets of the year. Salvatore finished first among the DePaul women at both the Greater Louisville Classic’s 5K and the Pre-National Invitational’s 6K. Behind her, fellow seniors Kelly Pickering and Claire O’Brien have each put forth steady performances this season while freshmen Jacqueline Kasal and Taylor Hines have registered top times for the DePaul women.

The men’s race is scheduled for a 10 a.m. CT start while the women’s race is set to go off at 10:50 a.m. It is the third 8K of the season for the Blue Demon men and the second 6K of the year for the DePaul women.
