CHICAGO – These Blue Demons would love to save their best for last.

The men’s and women’s cross country teams head into their final meet of the season Friday at the NCAA Cross Country Midwest Regional in Springfield, Mo.

At the top of the 28-team men’s field is vaunted Oklahoma State, ranked No. 1 in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national coaches’ poll.

The Cowboys will be pursued in the 10K race by No. 8 Oklahoma, No. 19 Tulsa along with Illinois and Missouri who are receiving votes in the national rankings.

The DePaul contingent will be led by junior Eddie McDaniel with plenty of backup from Herald Alvarez, Ian Sanchez, Andrew Diehn, Zak Koronkiewicz, Max Clink and Max Rodrigues.

McDaniel has led DePaul in every race this season. Clink was second to Matthew Graham for the Blue Demons at last year’s NCAA Midwest Regional while Sanchez came in fifth.

There will be 28 teams competing in the race that starts at 1:15 p.m.

No. 2 Iowa State heads up the 31-team women’s field with the other top contenders including No. 21 Oklahoma State, No. 28 Minnesota and regionally ranked Tulsa and Northwestern.

Leading the way for DePaul in the 6K race will be Jackie Kasal who has been the first Blue Demon across the finish line in every meet this season. The women’s race gets underway at noon.
