Cross Country Gears Up for Midwest Regional

CHICAGO- The DePaul men’s and women’s cross country teams will return to Iowa City, Iowa this weekend to compete against the best of the Midwest in the NCAA Regional Championships.  Saturday’s meet at the Ashton Cross Country Course will begin with the men’s 10K race at 11:00 a.m. followed by the women’s 6K race at 12:15 p.m.

The Blue Demons will run against some of the nation’s top programs, including ranked men’s teams Kansas, Minnesota, Iowa and Oklahoma State, as well as ranked women’s teams Illinois, Minnesota, Oklahoma State and Missouri.  The top two squads from each race will automatically advance to the National Championships November 21 in Terre Haute, Indiana.  An additional 13 teams nationwide can qualify with at-large bids and individuals can qualify regardless of team performance.

DePaul’s captains have set the pace for their squads throughout much of the 2005 season.   Co-captain Anthony Becknek finished with a time of 26:13 at the BIG EAST Championships on October 28 to lead the Blue Demon men, while women’s captain Carrie Moffett paced her squad with a 23:01 finish.

The race site is a familiar location for DePaul, as the Blue Demons kicked off their 2005 season on the Ashton Course during September’s Hawkeye Invitational.
