The Sun Shines Bright at the 2010 Men's Soccer Alumni Game
Oct. 18, 2010
CHICAGO--More than 30 Blue Demon men's soccer alumni gathered to compete in the annual DePaul Men's Soccer Alumni game on Sat., Oct. 16. Festivities started at 9 a.m. as alumni traveled from far and near to compete. Unlike last year, the weather was picturesque as the alumni battled on the turf for bragging rights. Coach Blazer and his staff cheered on the alumni as they ran up and down Wish Field, scrapping for every goal. After the game, each player made his way over to the John and Dale Melbourne Herklotz Letterwinners Plaza and Champions Club Courtyard to locate their brick. Camaraderie and excitement was evident as former players scrambled to find their bricks. Pictures were taken, high-fives exchanged, and laughter filled the air, as the men's soccer alums delighted in knowing the exact location of their brick. All alumni in attendance had the opportunity to personally say `thank you' to John Herklotz during the Herklotz Dedication Ceremony. After the ceremony, Men's Soccer Alumni were recognized by Jean Lenti Ponsetto, Director of Athletics, during a special halftime presentation. "Thanks [to the alumni] for the tremendous turnout and for making the 2010 Alumni Game a success," head coach Craig Blazer said. "It was great to see everyone and the team truly appreciated your support." Men's soccer returns to action on Wednesday, October 20, when they face ranked opponent Louisville on the road. Following the Wednesday night match-up, the team faces St. John's at Wish Field on Saturday, October 23. Game time is set for 1 p.m. and seniors Kevin Briars, Andre Gutierrez, Willy Lara, Alex Mangan, and Charlie Mancuso will be honored.
