Feb. 9, 2018

INDIANAPOLIS – The tradition-steeped Hinkle Fieldhouse, made famous by the movie “Hoosiers,” was the perfect place for more history to be made on Friday night.

DePaul’s 86-68 victory over Butler gave Hall of Fame coach the 700th win of his iconic career.

Six Blue Demons scored in double figures led by Chante Stonewall with 16. Kelly Campbell (15 points, nine rebounds), Amarah Coleman (15 points, six rebounds, five assists), Mart’e Grays (13 points, six boards), Lauren Prochaska (11 points) and Ashton Millender (10 points, six rebounds) rounded out the balanced attack.

After closing out the second quarter on a 10-2 run, the Blue Demons looked to maintain that mid-game momentum. Four Stonewall points along with her steal sparked an 8-0 burst the outset for a 42-34 lead.

It was 45-38, DePaul, at the media timeout. Lauren Prochaska launched a 15-3 run with a three-pointer and the Blue Demons went into the fourth quarter with a healthy 63-48 lead.

A Campbell three followed by consecutive Stonewall three-pointers sparked a 12-0 burst and a 79-55 lead.

A slow start that included one stretch where DePaul missed seven consecutive shots led to Butler grabbing a 25-16 lead after one quarter. The Bulldogs’ Whitney Jennings was 4-of-5 from behind the arc with 14 points in the first 10 minutes.

The Blue Demons came within 25-21 after a Coleman three-point play followed by a Grays layup, but Butler recovered to lead 32-24 at the second quarter media timeout.

DePaul closed out the second quarter with a flurry of opportunistic plays. Back-to-back Grays baskets down low combined with a Coleman three-point play sliced the deficit to 34-32. A Campbell steal that resulted in a Stonewall transition put-back tied it at 34-34 going into the halftime locker room.

The tight defending of Lauren Prochaska along with Kelly Campbell and Stonewall combined to hold Jennings scoreless in a second quarter that saw the Blue Demons outscore the home team 18-9.
