CHICAGO- The DePaul women’s basketball team, who advanced to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen for the second time in school history, was honored at a reception Tuesday, May 17 at Haymarket Pub and Brewery in Chicago’ West Loop.
Jack Neurauter -- a former DePaul men’s basketball manager and friend of women’s basketball head coach Doug Bruno, reached out to the Athletic Department and wanted to celebrate the Blue Demon’s historic 2010-11 season. Neurauter’s son and DePaul alum Jim Rittenberg, own Haymarket, and thought it would be a perfect venue to highlight DePaul’s storybook season.
More than 120 fans, friends, and alumni gathered to eat, drink and celebrate with the team and coaching staff. Toward the end of the reception Blue Demon Director of Athletics Jean Lenti Ponsetto, welcomed and thanked everyone in attendance before turning the microphone over to Coach Bruno.
Bruno introduced the entire team and gave a special shout out to two alumni -- former men’s basketball player and Hall of Famer Emmette Bryant and Heather Nichols a long-time women’s basketball supporter and active member of the Athletics Advisory Council.
The night concluded with graduating senior, Sam Quigley, thanking everyone in attendance for their support throughout the season.
