Upcoming Events:

MAY IS SCHOLARSHIP MONTH! After a rousing success in last year's Blue Demon Scholarship Challenge, DePaul Athletic Development has designated May as scholarship month for 2013. As part of the Blue Demon Scholarship Challenge, the DePaul's athletic programs will compete for a chance for departmental awards for their scholarship accounts. Last year, because of great support from alumni, family and friends, the Inaugural Scholarship Challenge garnered a total of 151 scholarship gifts, totaling more than $38,000.

There will be three ways to win: 1) Award for most gifts to a sport's scholarship fund(s) (gifts of $100 or more), 2) Largest amount of total gifts to a sport's scholarship fund(s), and 3) Largest percentage of alumni who make a gift to a scholarship fund(s) (gifts of $100 or more). The program that wins each award will receive $1500 for their scholarship funds from the revenue generated by DePaul's on-line auctions throughout 2012-13. (The Scholarship Challenge only counts Scholarship gifts that are made between May 1 and May 31.)

Sports Report:

Basketball: Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced plans today for a large-scale tourism and economic development project near McCormick Place, one that includes construction of a 10,000-seat, multipurpose events center to serve as the new home for the DePaul Blue Demons. In addition to hosting home games for DePaul men's and women's basketball teams and serving as a practice facility, the events center will support other high-profile functions for both DePaul and the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority (MPEA), including DePaul graduation ceremonies and special events, as well as Chicago's convention-related business.
