Golf Alumni Gather at Rev. Austin Minogue, C.M. Memorial Outing
Aug. 3, 2010
LEMONT, Ill. - Sunshine and stellar play highlighted DePaul Golf's 2010 Rev. Austin Minogue, C.M. Memorial Outing played at Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont, Ill., on Monday. The men's field was led by a 20-under-par 52 carded by Jason Zildenbrand, Jeff Martin, Jim Billtier and Ryan Leuer. A foursome of DePaul men's golf alumni (Blair Banwart, Keith Pierce, John Wallace and Brad Balduf) finished as runners up two shots off the pace. Minogue Outing organizer and golf alum Ron Griggs led a foursome to the mixed team title with a score of 60. Griggs was joined in his champion foursome by his son Ronnie, Gretchen Anderson and DePaul University professor Joel Whalen. Finishing as runners up with a score of 62 was a foursome made up of Holly Sutherland, Chris Mossey, Mike Savarino and Stephen Deuxier. Due in a large part to the volunteer efforts of Hall of Fame Golf Alum Ron Griggs, the 2010 Minogue Outing grossed more than $100,000 to benefit the DePaul golf program. Special recognition goes to the events presenting sponsors HP and Jim and Rose Lynn Wicklander and Family. The Minogue Memorial Outing to benefit Blue Demon golf is played in honor of Fr. Austin Minogue, C.M. who was fondly dubbed "The Founding Father" of golf at DePaul. While at DePaul, he initiated the golf team in 1959, served as the Director of Student Activities and faithfully tended to the religious needs of the neighboring community. Blessed with his service for 37 years, Rev. Minogue was inducted into the DePaul Athletics Hall of Fame in 1992.
