Today In Blue Demon History

On September 4th 2001, outside hitter Stephanie Bishop was named Conference USA's Player of the Week. Bishop, a senior from Fort Wayne, Ind., led the Blue Demons to the championship of the Northern Illinois Invitational the previous weekend.  She recorded 16 kills and 8 digs in the opening victory over Creighton, 21 kills and 23 digs in a five game victory over Texas-San Antonio, and 20 kills and 10 digs in the championship victory over Northern Illinois. The 2001 squad won the C-USA title and qualified for the NCAA tournament. 

BIDS Auction Item of the Day

Emblazoned on the upper left of the jersey is the commemorative coach 42/724 logo in honor of DePaul legend Ray Meyer. The jersey is blue with red/white piping, size 50 and number 15.Ray Meyer is one of the 20 all-time winningest coaches in NCAA division 1 history. He led the Blue Demons for 42 seasons and 724 games. Meyer compled his tenure in September 1997 after 55 years of service.The jersey was worn by No. 15 Thijin Moses. The 6-8 forward played just one season for the Blue Demons in 2006-07. Sports Report:

Men's Soccer: In what was a strong defensive showing by both DePaul and Western Michigan on Saturday afternoon, a fluky second half goal was the difference, sending the Blue Demons to a 1-0 loss at Wish Field. Click Here for full story. 


 

 

Women's Soccer: Friday night's women's soccer match between the DePaul Blue Demons and the Wright State Raiders was all about one thing--defense. DePaul (3-1-1) and Wright State (2-1-2) finished their double-overtime battle in a 0-0 draw despite a number of shots from both sides. Click Here for the full story on Friday's match. On Sunday, thanks to stingy goalkeeping and an overtime goal by sophomore MaryKate Cicinelli--the first of her career--the DePaul women's soccer team heads back to Lincoln Park with a 2-1 win over the host Dayton Flyers. Coming off a weekend in which she registered a shutout on Friday and a 12-save performance on Sunday, DePaul sophomore goalkeeper Megan Pyrz was named the BIG EAST Conference Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday afternoon. Click Here for the full story on Pyrz.

Women's Volleyball: The women's volleyball team competed in the First State Skyhawk Invitational over the weekend. The team opened up the First State Skyhawk Invitational with a dominant 3-0 (25-18, 25-11, 25-14) win over Wright State on Friday, August 31 at the Skyhawk Fieldhouse.  The team dropped a 3-1 (25-23, 17-25, 14-25, 21-25) decision to Troy in the first match of day two of the First State Skyhawk Invitational on Saturday. The team took a 3-2 (24-26, 25-19, 19-25, 25-22, 15-9) win against UT Martin in the finale of the First State Skyhawk Invitational on Saturday, September 1. Cross Country: Led by Eddie McDaniel's fourth-place finish, the DePaul men's team placed second Friday night in the Elmhurst College Earlybird Invitational at Eldridge Park. The Blue Demon women's team finished in third place as Jacqueline Kasal crossed the finish line in 14th place. Taylor Hynes came in 19th and freshman Molly Shiroishi 28th. Upcoming Events:

The women's soccer team heads to the Minnesota Gold Classic in Minneapolis this weekend. DePaul takes on Iowa State in a neutral site matchup on Friday night at 4:30 p.m. CT before battling host and Chastain alma mater, Minnesota, on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.

The women's volleyball team will be back in action this weekend at the Chicago Classic, hosted at Mother McAuley High School in Evergreen Park, Ill. Participating teams include No. 4 Penn State, Oregon State and local-rival UIC. The Blue Demons will begin tournament play on Saturday, September 8 with 10:00 a.m. matchup against the Nittany Lions.

The men's soccer team returns to the field on Friday evening when it travels to SIU-Edwardsville for a 6 p.m. matchup against the Cougars. 

DePaul men's soccer alumni day is September 29th, 9:30 am alumni game, followed by post game reception in the Hall of Fame Foyer then 1pm kickoff against St. Johns. 

DePaul women's soccer alumnae day will take place September 16th with an alumnae competition at 9:30 am, followed by a reception in the Hall of Fame foyer and a 1pm kickoff against Louisville.
