For nearly seven decades,  Blue Demon athletic alumni have been joining together for a day of fun on the golf course at the D-Club Golf Outing. This year’s outing will be played on Wed., Oct. 5 at Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont, Ill.

The initial DePaul alumni golf outing teed off  in 1945 at St. Andrews Country Club on a course where women were not allowed to play. Stacy Osgood, (Law ’30) finished first playing underthe “Peoria System” of scoring. .

Though the event has changed drastically, now boasting a large number of women in a scramble format, the event’s goal to build Blue Demon spirit and to reunite alumni remains at its core.

The newest addition for the 2011 D-Club Golf Outing will be the adoption of the DePaul Blue Demons Care Community Service Program as the event’s beneficiary.  Blue Demons Care is coordinated by Assistant to the Athletics Director for Community Outreach and ex-DePaul basketball All-American Dave Corzine.

Blue Demons Care impacts countless people through the efforts of DePaul’s student-athletes. Chief among these programs are Field Trip Days. DePaul Athletics annually welcomes thousands of students from Chicago and the surrounding area to attend Field Trip Days. Students are provided with bus transportation, t-shirts and tickets for the game. The students have created a tremendous home-field advantage for the Blue Demons in women’s basketball, soccer and softball.

Additionally, countless schools throughout the Chicagoland area have invited DePaul student-athletes to participate as guest readers.  Blue Demons Care incentivizes reading and literacy by offering a comprehensive reading program by which elementary school students may earn complimentary tickets, classroom pennants and other DePaul athletics prizes.

“Field Trip Day and our reading program are just two of our many community service efforts,” said Corzine. “Our student-athletes devote thousands of hours to many worthy causes including Misericordia Candy Days, Vincentian Service Days and programming like Day with the Demons and the Academic Excel Program.”

Alumni and friends of DePaul Athletics are asked to support the D-Club Golf Outing through sponsorship opportunities. Opportunities include sponsorships for golf carts, refreshment cart, tees, receptions and three overall tournament sponsorship levels.  Each level of sponsorship has a coordinating level of benefit.

“We are hopeful that the D-Club Outing will be a fun way for alumni and friends of Blue Demon Athletics to become involved while providing resources that allow our student-athletes to impact their world,” Corzine said.
