Tailgate TONIGHT! The DePaul athletics department invites fans to kick off the season with a tailgate starting at 4:30 p.m. TODAY for the start of the 2012-13 men’s and women’s basketball seasons. The event is under the “L” tracks next to McGrath-Phillips Arena and will be open for pre-game, halftime and between games on Friday. Click Here for all the information on the tailgate.
Today In Blue Demon History:
On November 9th 2002, The DePaul women’s basketball team won the first of their two exhibition games over the Chicago Challengers, 74-59, at the DePaul Athletic Center. Jenni Dant led four players in double-figures with 22 points. The Blue Demons opened the game with an 18-6 run over the first six minutes, sparked by a pair of three-pointers and a three-point play by Lindsay Forsberg. The Challengers cut the lead to 18-11 on a lay-in by former Blue Demon Carla Stone before DePaul answered with seven points to take a 25-11 lead midway through the opening half. Men's Basketball: DePaul opens the 2012-13 regular season at McGrath-Phillips Arena against UC Riverside on Friday night. Start time is scheduled for 8 p.m. and the game is the third of a basketball tripleheader in Lincoln Park. The Blue Demons and Highlanders tangle following two women’s basketball games of the Maggie Dixon Classic hosted by DePaul. Click Here for the full story.
Women's Basketball: With two preseason games in the books, the No. 25 DePaul women’s basketball team opens its 2012-13 season by hosting the Maggie Dixon Classic, Nov. 9-10. The Blue Demons welcome Dayton, Mississippi Valley State and Nicholls State for the two-day tournament at McGrath-Phillips Arena. Before every game, a patriotic Doug Bruno stands straight with his gaze firmly fixed on the American flag during the playing of The Star Spangled Banner. The same name swirls through his mind each time. Maggie Dixon. Flash back to a scene just six years earlier. A young and dynamic DePaul assistant coach had spent five seasons learning under women's basketball head coach Bruno's tutelage and was ready to take flight on her own. Men's Soccer: On the eve of the 2012 BIG EAST Conference Men’s Soccer Championship semifinals, the league announced its postseason honors and awards with DePaul senior Antonio Aguilar earning a spot on the All-BIG EAST First Team for the second straight season. During his fourth and final season in a Blue Demon uniform, Aguilar, who was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team, finished with a team-best 13 points including six goals and one assist. Cross Country: These Blue Demons would love to save their best for last. The men’s and women’s cross country teams head into their final meet of the season Friday at the NCAA Cross Country Midwest Regional in Springfield, Mo. At the top of the 28-team men’s field is vaunted Oklahoma State, ranked No. 1 in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national coaches’ poll. Women's Tennis: The DePaul women's tennis team will wrap up its fall schedule, heading to the 2012 WMU Super Challenge on Friday and competing through Sunday at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Mich. It will be the Blue Demons' first action since a solid showing at the USTA/ITA Midwest Regionals, where three student-athletes advanced to the quarterfinals for the first time in program history.
