DePaul Names Tim Anderson Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach

Garrett moves to director of basketball operations position

Matt Fleming is the special assistant to the head coach/assistant director of basketball operations. In this role, he works with head coach Dave Leitao while also assisting in the overall daily administration and scheduling of the program.

His first role at DePaul was as the program's video coordinator in May 2011. Fleming joined the DePaul staff under Oliver Purnell after spending two seasons at VCU and remained on the staff during the transition to Dave Leitao. As video coordinator, Fleming's primary responsibilities were the breakdown of game and practice footage for player development and to assist with the scouting of opponents during the season.

After graduating from North Carolina in 2009 with a degree in Exercise/Sport Science and Music, Fleming joined the VCU staff as an assistant video coordinator. Fleming was promoted in 2010 to video coordinator after the position was vacated. He assisted head coach Shaka Smart as the Rams reached the 2011 Final Four in Houston. VCU posted victories over USC, Georgetown, Purdue, Florida State and Kansas before falling to Butler in the national semifinals on their run from the First Four to the Final Four.

While at North Carolina, Fleming served as a manager for the women's basketball team from 2005-07 before becoming the team's video coordinator in 2007.

Fleming finished his masters in Sports Leadership from VCU in December 2010.
