DePaul Drops Road Game at Marquette

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - DePaul started ice cold from the field and couldn't recover in a 70-52 loss at Marquette on Monday night. Brandon Cyrus led the Blue Demons with 15 points.

DePaul made just four of their first 19 attempts from the field to trail 23-13 with 7:31 left in the first half.

DePaul continued the cold start throughout the first 20 minutes and trailed Marquette, 41-21, at intermission. The Blue Demons combined to shoot just .182 (6-33) from the field in the first half, but went a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line.

Tre'Darius McCallum and Brandon Cyrus scored the first two buckets of the second half, but the Golden Eagles answered with five straight points and maintained their advantage throughout the remainder of the game.

A three-pointer by Max Strus made the 65-49 with 2:29 before the final score ended with Marquette holding a 70-52 lead.

Cyrus added two rebounds and a steal while Strus finished with 10 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals for DePaul (8-10, 1-5 BIG EAST).

Marquette (13-6, 4-3 BIG EAST) was led by 19 points and seven rebounds for Sam Hauser.

The Blue Demons host Butler on Saturday afternoon. Start time at Wintrust Arena is 1 p.m. and the game can be seen on FS1 and heard on WSCR 670 AM.

Postgame Notes

  • Monday was the 121st meeting between DePaul and Marquette... the Golden Eagles lead the series, 75-46 with four straight wins in the series.
  • Brandon Cyrus and Tre’Darius McCallum both played in their 50th career game.
  • Max Strus knocked down his 50th three-pointer of the season... he is the 18th player in program history to make at least 50 three’s in a season.
