Blue Demons Come Up Short at Creighton

OMAHA, Neb. – The Blue Demons trailed by as many as 14 points and rallied late in the game but couldn’t overcome 12th-ranked Creighton in a 78-66 loss on Friday night. Brandon Young led DePaul with 16 points and Forrest Robinson added 11 points off the bench.
After trailing by eight at halftime, DePaul (10-14, 2-9 BIG EAST) outscored Creighton, 7-2, with a lay-up by Young pulling the Blue Demons to within three less than four minutes into the second half. The Bluejay answered and went back ahead by 10 points before one last push by the visiting Blue Demons.
Back-to-back three’s by Forrest Robinson followed by buckets from Durrell McDonald and Billy Garrett Jr. pulled the Blue Demons to within four at 64-60 with just over six minutes left in the game. Doug McDermott answered with nine straight points that included seven free throws to extend the Bluejay advantage back to 73-60 and Creighton (19-3, 9-1 BIG EAST) held on for the 78-66 victory.
Young added seven rebounds and three assists while Garrett finished with nine points and five assists. McDermott led all scorers with 32 points.
DePaul returns to Allstate Arena on Wednesday night to play sixth-ranked Villanova. Start time is 7 p.m. in Rosemont.
Notes: Brandon Young opened the game with a three-pointer to extend DePaul’s streak to 635 straight games with a trifecta... Friday was the 24th all-time meeting between the two programs...
