CINCINNATI – Despite warm temperatures in Cincinnati on Wednesday afternoon, DePaul was frigid from the field in an 83-64 loss at Xavier. Billy Garrett Jr. led the Blue Demons with 17 points and Forrest Robinson added a career-high 14 in the loss.

DePaul (10-17, 2-12 BIG EAST) started cold and Xavier took advantage by building a double-digit lead within the first seven minutes of the game. The Blue Demons started to close the gap with a flurry of three-pointers as they drilled six three’s in the final 10 minutes. Robinson led the way with three trifectas before Garrett closed the half with a three from the corner to make the score 39-27 in favor of the Musketeers.

Xavier (18-8, 8-5 BIG EAST) put the game away for good with a 14-0 run to start the second half as a Dee Davis lay-up made the score 53-27 with just over 16 minutes left in the game. The Blue Demons could get no closer than 16 points over the remainder of the evening.

Garrett’s 17 points marked his 16th game this season in double-figures. The freshman added five assists and two rebounds. Robinson knocked down a career-high four three-pointer and added three rebounds to his 14 points. Young finished with 12 points and three rebounds and Sandi Marcius scored 11 with eight rebounds.

Justin Martin led Xavier with 22 points and seven rebounds while Davis added 17.

DePaul returns to Allstate Arena for a Saturday afternoon game against Marquette. Start time in Rosemont is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Notes: With the win, Xavier sweeps the season series... DePaul holds an 8-5 advantage in the all-time series... the Blue Demons have made a three-pointer in 638 straight games... Brandon Young played in his 120th career game... Billy Garrett Jr. has knocked down 17 straight free throws over the last three games.
