CHICAGO - A festive afternoon at Wintrust Arena was nearly perfect, but No. 14 Notre Dame caught fire from the outside and pulled away in the second half for a 72-58 decision over DePaul. Tre'Darius McCallum and Eli Cain led the Blue Demons with 14 points each.

Both teams started slow and the Irish held a four-point advantage at intermission. The Blue Demons shot just .281 from the field but remained in the game and trailed 29-25. After shooting a combined .393 in the first half, Notre Dame (1-0) went 14-for-25 (.560) in the second half and led by as many as 16 points with five minutes left in the game.

McCallum added a team-high six rebounds to his 14 points while Cain scored 14 with five rebounds and three assists. Max Strus added 11 points and five boards while Devin Gage chipped in 10 points and three steals.

Notre Dame was led by 21 points from Temple Gibbs and an 18-point, 13-rebound double-double by Bonzie Colson.

DePaul (0-1) faces a quick turnaround and hosts Delaware State on Monday night at Wintrust Arena. Start time is 7 p.m. on FS2 and 670 The Score.
