CHICAGO - DePaul opens its eighth BIG EAST season on Wednesday night against the Seton Hall Pirates. The Blue Demons and Pirates are scheduled for an 8 p.m. start at Allstate Arena. The two teams concluded regular-season conference action last season on the same court with DePaul posting an 86-58 win on March 3.

Wednesday's game between DePaul and Seton Hall can be seen in Chicago on The U Too (WCIU-DT2) as part of the BIG EAST Network. Lou Canellis (play-by-play) and Brooke Weisbrod (analyst) are handling the television duties with the broadcast also be available online on ESPN3. DePaul stands at 9-4 following a 69-61 loss against Loyola-Chicago on Saturday while Seton Hall holds an 11-2 record. DePaul head coach Oliver Purnell is in his third season at DePaul and his 25th as a head coach at the collegiate level. Seton Hall's Kevin Willard is in his third season leading the Pirates.

Following the Seton Hall game, DePaul goes on the road for two straight games at Providence and Connecticut. The Blue Demons play the Friars on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET. The game can be seen on The U Too (BIG EAST Network) and heard on WSCR 670 AM.

BIG EAST Openers: The Blue Demons are 1-6 in BIG EAST first games with the 84-76 win over Villanova to start the 2007-08 conference schedule serving as the single victory. DePaul's league-opening win over the 17th-ranked Wildcats sparked a 3-1 BIG EAST start for DePaul to set the best conference start in program history.

A year ago, the Blue Demons dropped an 87-68 decision against No. 1-ranked Syracuse at Allstate Arena on Jan. 1. DePaul is starting its conference schedule at home for the second straight season. Prior to last season's Syracuse game, the Blue Demons opened league play on the road in four of six seasons.

DePaul has been a member of a conference since the 1991-92 season starting with membership in the Great Midwest Conference followed by a 10-year run in Conference USA. The Blue Demons joined the BIG EAST in July 2005 and are 5-15 all-time in conference openers.

It Could Happen: A win gives DePaul its second 1-0 start in BIG EAST play... a win gives the Blue Demons seven home victories this season which matches the total of the entire 2011-12 season... Cleveland Melvin (1,149 pts.) needs 13 points to pass Bernard Randolph (1979-83, 1,161 pts.) for 31st on DePaul's scoring list... with 22 points, he also passes Lance Williams (1998-02, 1,170 pts.) for 30th all-time... with one blocked shot he moves into a tie for 10th with Wilson Chandler (2005-07, 86 blocks).

Noting the Blue Demons: The men's basketball program is 1,393-884 (.612) all-time... the Blue Demons have knocked down at least one three-pointer in 592 straight games... DePaul's last game without a three was Feb. 16, 1993 against UAB at Allstate Arena... the Blue Demons are 316-143 (.689) all-time at Allstate Arena... DePaul is 7-1 (.875) all-time in games at McGrath-Phillips Arena... in each of Oliver Purnell's three seasons at DePaul, the Blue Demons have faced three Chicagoland opponents during the non-conference portion of the schedule with an 8-1 record in those games... in the Purnell era, the Blue Demons are 14-3 when scoring 80 or more points... DePaul has used seven different starting lineups this season... Cleveland Melvin and Brandon Young have started every game this season... DePaul is scheduled to have at least 27 games televised during the 2012-13 season.... on 12/12/12, No. 12 Cleveland Melvin scored 12 points at Arizona State... a year earlier on 11/11/11, No. 11 Jeremiah Kelly scored 11 points against UT-Pan American.

The Opponent - Seton Hall Pirates: Seton Hall stands at 11-2 entering Wednesday's BIG EAST opener... the Pirates have won six straight games and nine of 10 since starting the season with a 2-1 record... Fuquan Edwin leads the team with 18.2 points, 29 three-pointers and 33 steals... Eugene Teague adds 12.7 points per game along with a team-high 7.9 rebounds per game... head coach Kevin Willard is in his third season leading the Seton Hall program... DePaul head coach Oliver Purnell is 1-2 all-time against the Pirates.

The Series: Wednesday is the 12th meeting between the two programs... the Pirates hold an 8-3 advantage in the series... a year ago, the two sides split two regular-season meetings with each team winning decisively on its home floor... Seton Hall posted a 94-73 win at the Prudential Center on Jan. 10, 2012... DePaul finished the regular season with an 86-58 win over the Pirates at Allstate Arena on March 3, 2012... the win for the Blue Demons ended a five-game win streak in the series for Seton Hall.

The Last Meeting: DePaul combined to shoot .537 (29-54) from the field in an 86-58 win over Seton Hall on March 3, 2012 at Allstate Arena... the 28-point margin of victory was the largest for DePaul in a BIG EAST game since a 108-69 win over Syracuse on March 2, 2006... Jamee Crockett led four DePaul players in double-figures with 21 points off the bench... Jeremiah Kelly added a 15-point, 10-assist double-double while Cleveland Melvin scored 14 and Brandon Young added 10 points... Who's Next: The Blue Demons travel to Providence on Jan. 5... the Friars hold an 8-4 record heading into their BIG EAST opener at Louisville on Jan. 2... Saturday's game will be the 30th meeting between the two programs... Providence leads the series, 22-7... a year ago, the Friars posted a 73-71 win at Allstate Arena on Feb. 25.
