Jan. 14, 2013
CHICAGO - DePaul junior guard Brandon Young was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for the second time this season after scoring a career-high 35 points at Connecticut last week. The junior guard was also named to the weekly list on Dec. 17.
Young’s 35-point effort was the 30th game in program history of 35 or more points by a DePaul player. He added five assists, four rebounds and two steals last Tuesday in a road loss at Connecticut. Young’s five assists also accounted for 11 points giving him credit for nearly 60 percent of DePaul’s points last week. He went 13-for-22 from the field, 3-of-4 from three-point range and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.
The 35 points also saw Young go from 42nd on DePaul’s scoring list to 36th as he finished the game with 1,119 career points.
Syracuse’s C.J. Fair was named BIG EAST Player of the Week while Chris Obekpa of St. John's was selected as the Rookie of the Week. Young was joined on the BIG EAST Honor Roll by Shabazz Napier of Connecticut, Gorgui Dieng of Louisville, Marquette’s Vander Blue and Providence’s Bryce Cotton.
