Blue Demons Host Xavier in Monday Matinee

CHICAGO - DePaul plays its second game in three days with a Monday afternoon game against the Xavier Musketeers. Start time is 3 p.m. at Allstate Arena in the first meeting since Dec. 1997 between the two programs.

Monday’s game will be televised on FOX Sports Networks with Eric Collins (play-by-play) and Kevin O’Neill (analyst) handling the television duties. DePaul enters the game at 10-9 overall and 2-4 in conference play after an 88-62 loss at No. 6/6 Villanova on Saturday. DePaul head coach Oliver Purnell is in his fourth season at DePaul and his 26th as a head coach at the collegiate level. Xavier is 14-4 overall and 4-1 in the BIG EAST while receiving votes in both national polls this week. The Musketeers have won eight of nine dating back to the start of December including an 80-67 win over Georgetown on Jan. 15. Xavier coach Chris Mack is in his fifth season leading the Musketeers.

Following the Xavier game, DePaul plays just one game before Feb. 1. The Blue Demons travel to Seton Hall on Saturday, Jan. 25 before hosting Providence on Feb. 1 and Georgetown on Feb. 3 at Allstate Arena.

Noting the Blue Demons: The men’s basketball program is 1,405-910 (.607) all-time... the 80-71 win at Milwaukee on Nov. 19 was game No. 2,300 in program history since the first fully-recognized season in 1923-24... men’s basketball was played at DePaul prior to that season but records are incomplete... the 81-70 win over Florida Atlantic on Dec. 12 was win No. 1,400 since start of 1923-24 season... the Blue Demons have knocked down at least one three-pointer in 630 straight games... DePaul’s last game without a three was Feb. 16, 1993 against UAB at Allstate Arena... the Blue Demons are 323-154 (.677) all-time at Allstate Arena... The Series: Monday is the 12th all-time meeting between the two programs and first in BIG EAST action... the last game was a 73-56 win for Xavier in Cleveland on Dec. 27, 1997... that game was the first between the two sides since Feb. 1974... the first all-time meeting was on Jan. 16, 1939 with DePaul taking a 38-30 decision on its home floor... nine of the 11 all-time games took place between Dec. 1963 and Feb. 1974... Monday’s game is the first meeting at Allstate Arena.

The Last Meeting: Xavier posted a 73-56 win at Gund Arena in Cleveland on Dec. 27, 1997... the Musketeers entered the game ranked No. 13 in the Associated Press top 25.

It Could Happen: Cleveland Melvin (710 FG) needs three field goals to pass David Booth (713 FG, 1988-92) for third all-time... Melvin could move from 16th to 14th place on the all-time rebounding list on Monday...
