Billy Garrett Jr. Named Rookie of the Week For Fourth Time

CHICAGO – DePaul freshman Billy Garrett Jr. was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week for the fourth time following games against St. John’s and Villanova last week. Garrett averaged 16 points and four assists while going a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line.
Garrett opened the week with 21 points, five assists and two rebounds against the Red Storm. He followed that with 11 points, three assists, three rebounds and a steal at Villanova on Saturday. Garrett didn’t miss a free throw in both games and committed just two turnovers total while averaging 32 minutes against the Red Storm and Wildcats.
The Chicago native leads all BIG EAST freshman with four Rookie of the Week honors and is the league freshman leader in scoring, assists and free throw percentage.
Bryce Cotton of Providence was named the league’s Player of the Week while Doug McDermott from Creighton, Seton Hall’s Fuquan Edwin, Villanova’s James Bell and Josh Hart, and Dee Davis from Xavier were picked to the Weekly Honor Roll.
Following Monday’s game against Xavier, the Blue Demons travel to Seton Hall for a Saturday evening contest against the Pirates. Start time is 6 p.m. ET on the CBS Sports Network.
