Charlotte Beats DePaul In Rosemont
ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Jobey Thomas scored 28 points Tuesday night as Charlotte won its sixth straight game, beating DePaul 97-83.
Butter Johnson added 17 points and Cam Stephens had 16 for the 49ers (13-6, 7-1 Conference USA), who have won eight of their last nine games.
Thomas was 8-of-15 from the field, including 6-of-11 from 3-point range, as Charlotte made 57 percent of its field goal attempts.
The Blue Demons (8-11, 1-7) have lost seven of eight games after upsetting then-No. 10 Missouri.
Marlon Brooks' 18 points paced DePaul.
The 49ers led 43-42 at halftime, but Charlotte made a 17-6 run to open up a 60-44 lead. DePaul never got closer than eight points after that.
In the early going, Imari Sawyer hit a pair of 3-pointers as the Blue Demons led 16-15. Charlotte went ahead 36-31 on Jermaine Williams' slam, but DePaul came back with a 9-1 run, keyed by another Sawyer 3-pointer, and led 40-37.
Charlotte quickly reclaimed the lead. The 49ers shot 59 percent from the field in the first half while DePaul hit 61 percent.
DePaul coach Pat Kennedy missed his third straight game because of a bulging disc and bone spurs in his back. Team doctor Preston Wolin said it was possible Kennedy could miss the rest of the season.The Blue Demons will be in action again on Sunday when they travel to Las Vegas to face UNLV at 1:00 p.m. (CST).
