Blue Demons and Bearcats meet at 7 p.m. ET at Fifth Third Arena

CHICAGO - DePaul continues its three games in six days stretch at Cincinnati on Saturday night following an 87-81 loss against St. John’s on Wednesday evening. The Blue Demons and Bearcats are scheduled for a 7 p.m. ET start at Fifth Third Arena. DePaul concludes the run on Monday night against Marquette at Allstate Arena.
DePaul is 11-10 overall and 2-7 in BIG EAST play while Cincinnati stands at 15-7 overall and 5-4 in league action. The two sides meet for the 49th time on Saturday and all of the action can be heard on WSCR 670 The Score in Chicagoland with Zach Zaidman (play-by-play) and Jeff Blanzy (analyst) providing the audio description. The game will be televised on The U Too in Chicago as part of the BIG EAST Network with John Sanders (play-by-play) and John Celestand (analyst) calling the action courtside. Noting the Blue Demons: The men’s basketball program is 1,383-871 (.614) all-time... the Blue Demons have knocked down at least one three-pointer in 569 straight games... The Opponent - Cincinnati Bearcats: Cincinnati enters Saturday’s game at 15-7 overall and 5-4 in BIG EAST play... the Bearcats have dropped three straight games after starting the BIG EAST scheduled with a 5-1 record... Cincinnati has been off since a 61-54 loss at Rutgers on Jan. 28... the balanced Bearcat scoring attack is led by Sean Kilpatrick’s 15.4 points per game... he is followed by Dion Dixon (13.6 ppg), Yancy Gates (12.7 ppg) and Cashmere Wright (10.7 ppg)... Gates also averages a team-high 9.4 rebounds per game... head coach Mick Cronin is in his sixth season leading the Cincinnati program.
The Series: Saturday is the 49th meeting between the two programs... Cincinnati holds a 33-15 advantage in the series... the Bearcats have three straight meetings and five of six games during the BIG EAST era... both sides were also members of the Great Midwest Conference (1991-95) and Conference USA (1995-05)... a year ago, Cincinnati swept two season meetings with a 76-60 win at Fifth Third Arena on Dec. 28 and a 71-68 decision at Allstate Arena on Feb. 8.
The Last Meeting: Cincinnati built a 17-point lead early in the second half and held off DePaul in a 71-68 win at Allstate Arena on Feb. 8, 2011... the Bearcats led, 41-26, at halftime before DePaul outscored the visitors by a 42-30 margin in the second half... the then-freshmen trio of Cleveland Melvin, Moses Morgan and Brandon Young combined for 49 of DePaul’s 68 points... Melvin finished with 20 points while Young had 16 and Morgan chipped in 13... Sean Kilpatrick led Cincinnati with 19 points while Ibrahima Thomas added 16 and Cashmere Wright scored 10.
It Could Happen: A win would give DePaul back-to-back BIG EAST road wins for the first time since January 2007... the Blue Demons won at Villanova, 73-65, on Jan. 6 and at Rutgers, 60-37, on Jan. 13... Cleveland Melvin needs one blocked shot to move in a tie for 16th all-time at DePaul... Jeremiah Kelly needs three steals for 150 career... the three steals would also move him up to eighth all-time at DePaul... Brandon Young needs eight assists to move into a tie with Tyrone Corbin (1981-85) for 25th all-time at DePaul.
Demon Doings: Notes following DePaul’s 87-81 loss against St. John’s on Feb. 1:
- Brandon Young tallied his 100th assist of the season in second half... he is the first player since Rod Strickland to record at least 100 assists in his freshman and sophomore seasons.
- Young recorded his first career double-double with 13 points and 11 assists... Young is the first Blue Demon since Will Walker (Jan. 6, 2010) to record 10 or more assists.
- Cleveland Melvin recorded his second double-double of the season (third career) with 22 points and 11 rebounds.
- Melvin and Young are the first duo to record double-doubles in the same game since Mac Koshwal (17 pts/11 rebs) and Will Walker (13 pts/10 asts) at Villanova on Jan. 6, 2010.
- Moses Morgan reached double-figures for the 15th time in his career (seventh season) with a career-high 19 points.
- Wednesday was the 28th meeting between the two teams... the series is tied, 14-14.
- St. John’s has won five straight against DePaul.
- DePaul travels to St. John’s later this season on Monday, Feb. 20.
