Freshman from Benton Harbor, Mich. earns the league honor for the second time this season.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – DePaul’s Wilson Chandler has been named the BIG EAST Conference Rookie of the Week the league announced today.
The 6-8 freshman from Benton Harbor, Mich. had two career games in helping the Blue Demons to a 1-1 record last week. In the two performances, Chandler averaged 23.5 points and 10 rebounds.
In the loss at Louisville on Wednesday Chandler scored a then-career-high 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds. He then came back on Saturday to help the Blue Demons beat Seton Hall by scoring a career-high 26 points and grabbing 11 rebounds with three blocks, a steal and an assist.
For the week, Chandler shot .528 (19-36) from the field including a 9-15 effort (after missing his first three shots) against the Pirates. He also canned two free throws with 15 seconds left to seal the victory over Seton Hall.
It was the second time this season that Chandler has won the league’s award as he was honored on January 7.
