CHICAGO – Following his performances against Seton Hall and St. John’s, DePaul senior guard Brandon Young was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. It’s his second weekly honor this season from the league office.
Young averaged 21.0 points, 4.0 assists, 3.5 steals and 2.5 rebounds per game against the Pirates and Red Storm. He led the Blue Demons to a 65-60 win over Seton Hall on Tuesday with 19 points, four assists, three steals and two rebounds. In the process, he surpassed the 1,800-point plateau and joined Mark Aguirre, David Booth, Dave Corzine, George Mikan and Tom Kleinschmidt as the only players in school history with at least 1,800 career points.
The Baltimore native scored 23 points at St. John’s on Sunday and added four assists, four steals, three rebounds and a blocked shot. Young recorded his 99th career game in double-figures and passed Kleinschmidt for fifth on all-time scoring list.
Bryce Cotton from Providence was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week and Xavier’s Jalen Reynolds was the Rookie of the Week. Young was joined on the honor roll by Creighton’s Doug McDermott, D’Angelo Harrison from St. John’s, Darrun Hilliard from Villanova and Xavier’s Semaj Christon.
Young was also named to the weekly honor roll on Dec. 1 following games against Oregon State, Texas and Wichita State.
Young enters his final home game on Thursday night in an 8 p.m. contest against Butler at Allstate Arena. He will be honored along with seniors Edwind McGhee and Sandi Marcius in a pregame ceremony on Senior Night. For ticket information, contact the DePaul ticket office at (773) 325-SLAM.
