Melvin Named to BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

CHICAGO – Following his All-BIG EAST honorable mention honors, DePaul sophomore forward Cleveland Melvin was selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after averaging 17.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in games against West Virginia and Seton Hall. It marks the third time this season that Melvin has picked up the weekly recognition. The Baltimore native went 15-for-27 (.556) from the field in the two games and led the Blue Demons in scoring and rebounding. He totaled 21 points and eight rebounds at West Virginia on Tuesday before scoring 14 points with nine boards against Seton Hall on Saturday. Melvin also added two blocked shots against the Pirates. Melvin was joined on the weekly honor roll by Cincinnati’s JaQuon Parker, Jae Crowder of Marquette, Rutgers’ Dane Miller and Brandon Triche from Syracuse. West Virginia’s Kevin Jones was named the Player of the Week and LaDontae Henton of Providence was selected as the Rookie of the Week. In the annual All-BIG EAST team announcement Sunday, Melvin picked up honorable mention honors in a vote of the league’s head coaches. He was also a preseason honorable mention All-BIG EAST selection. The Blue Demons open BIG EAST Championship play Tuesday at Noon ET against Connecticut.
