DePaul Faces Georgetown in First Round at BIG EAST Tournament

CHICAGO – With the conclusion of the regular-season schedule on Saturday, the field for the 2014 BIG EAST Tournament presented by New York Life has been finalized with the 10th-seeded Blue Demons taking on No. 7 seed Georgetown in the first round. Start time is 9:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday at Madison Square Garden.
DePaul finished the regular season 11-20 overall and 3-15 in the BIG EAST while Georgetown enters the postseason with a 17-13 overall mark and 8-10 league record. The winner of the first round matchup advances to the quarterfinals to face second-seeded Creighton.
Georgetown swept the season series between the two programs with a 61-54 decision on New Year’s Eve in Washington, D.C. followed by a 71-59 win on Feb. 3 at Allstate Arena. Wednesday will be the first meeting between the two sides in BIG EAST Tournament action.
Regular-season champion Villanova is the No. 1 seed followed by Creighton, Xavier and Providence. Eighth-seeded Seton Hall plays ninth-seeded Butler to open the tournament at 7 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
Thursday’s schedule features four games with Butler or Seton Hall facing Villanova at Noon ET followed by Providence and No. 5 St. John’s at 2:30 p.m. ET. Third-seeded Xavier plays No. 6 Marquette at 9:30 p.m. ET.
All nine games of the 2014 BIG EAST Tournament will be televised on FOX Sports 1 with Gus Johnson, Bill Raftery and Erin Andrews handling television duties for the all of the night sessions live from Madison Square Garden.
