DePaul Duo Named to BIG EAST All-Rookie Team
Tommy Hamilton IV led all league rookies in rebounding this season.

CHICAGO – DePaul freshmen Billy Garrett Jr. and Tommy Hamilton IV were named to the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team today following the annual balloting by the league’s head coaches. The league announced the All-BIG EAST First and Second Teams, Honorable Mention and the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team.

Garrett is the top rookie scorer in the BIG EAST with a 12.4 scoring average and also leads all league rookie in assists and free throw percentage. Hamilton is the leading freshman rebounder with an average of 5.0 rebounds per game. Both have picked up Rookie of the Week honors this season with Hamilton earning the weekly award in the first week and Garrett claiming the honor five times this season.

Joining Garrett and Hamilton on the All-Rookie Team are Andrew Chrabascz from Butler, Marquette’s Deonte Burton, Marquette, Rysheed Jordan of St. John’s, Villanova’s Josh Hart and Jaren Sina from Seton Hall. The BIG EAST Rookie of the Year will come from the All-Rookie Team and will be announced on Wednesday afternoon by the league office in a press conference at Madison Square Garden.

Garrett and Hamilton are the sixth and seventh Blue Demons to be named to the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team. They join Wilson Chandler (2006), Mac Koshwal (2008), Dar Tucker (2008), Cleveland Melvin (2011) and Brandon Young (2011).

Providence’s Bryce Cotton, Creighton’s Doug McDermott and Xavier’s Semaj Christon headlined the All-BIG EAST First Team as unanimous choices by the league’s head coaches. Villanova’s James Bell, D’Angelo Harrison from St. John’s and Markel Starks from Georgetown rounded out the all-conference first team.

DePaul begins tournament action on Wednesday night against seventh-seeded Georgetown. Start time at Madison Square Garden is scheduled for 9:30 p.m.
