June 26, 2017

CHICAGO – DePaul head coach Dave Leitao announced today that Marin Maric has joined the program as a graduate transfer. Maric is enrolled at DePaul as a graduate student after completing his undergraduate degree and playing at Northern Illinois from 2013-17.

"Marin is a great addition to the program on multiple levels," said Leitao. "His size and skill level speak for themselves as I think he will be at the top of the BIG EAST in terms of post players. Marin’s experience and leadership will make an immediate impact on our team as he has been a leader in every locker room he has been in."

Maric played in 96 career games over four seasons at Northern Illinois while averaging 10.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. The 6-11 center shot .536 (362-676) from the field while averaging 22.7 minutes per game over his career. He earned All-MAC third team honors his last two seasons that included averages of 11.9 points and 8.4 rebounds in 2015-16 and 14.4 points and 8.4 rebounds per game in 2016-17. He played just six games as a freshman before being sidelined with an injury and was awarded a medical hardship for the 2013-14 season.

A year ago, he led the Huskies in scoring (14.4 ppg) and rebounding (8.4 rpg) and ranked fourth in the Mid-American Conference in rebounding and 18th in scoring. Maric started all 32 games and totaled 13 double-doubles that included a six-game streak with a double-double to finish the season. During the six-game stretch, he averaged 19.7 points and 11.7 rebounds per game capped by a 24-point, 16-rebound effort against Eastern Michigan in his final game.

Maric joins DePaul's current incoming class that includes freshmen Jaylen Butz, Paul Reed and Justin Roberts along with transfers Austin Grandstaff and Max Strus.

In addition to adding Maric for next season, DePaul granted permission for Al Eichelberger to contact other institutions for transfer opportunities. Eichelberger played in 26 games during his freshman season while averaging 1.7 points and 1.3 rebounds per game.
