CHICAGO – The non-conference portion of the 2016-17 men’s basketball schedule has been finalized and features nine total home games that include six at Allstate Arena in DePaul’s final season of play in Rosemont.
In addition to the six games at Allstate Arena, the Blue Demons also host three home games at McGrath-Phillips Arena. The non-conference schedule is very fan-friendly as the Blue Demons play outside of the Chicagoland area only three times.
The Blue Demons don’t play a true road game until Saturday, Dec. 3 when DePaul travels to Evanston for a game against Northwestern. Other trips in December include Miami for the Hoophall Miami Invitational on Dec. 10 and two games at the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic on Dec. 22-23. The Blue Demons face Temple in Miami and Wyoming on Dec. 22 followed by either Missouri State or USC on Dec. 23 in Las Vegas.
In BIG EAST play, the Blue Demons are scheduled for an 18-game slate with nine home games and nine road games. The BIG EAST Tournament returns to Madison Square Garden in March for four days from March 8-11. The conference schedule will be announced later this summer.
Game 1: Nov. 13 vs. Robert Morris
DePaul opens the season at McGrath-Phillips Arena for the seventh straight year... the game is the first of three for DePaul in Lincoln Park... first meeting between the two programs... Robert Morris plays in the Northeast Conference... Robert Morris went 10-22 last season.
Game 2: Nov. 17 vs. Rutgers (Gavitt Tipoff Games)
The game is the season opener at Allstate Arena... it starts the 37th and final season of play for the Blue Demons in Rosemont... Rutgers was a member of the BIG EAST Conference until 2013... the Scarlet Knights hold a 6-4 advantage in the series... Rutgers is a member of the Big Ten Conference... the Gavitt Tipoff Games is an annual series between the BIG EAST and Big Ten... DePaul lost at Penn State, 68-62, last season in the inaugural Gavitt Tipoff Games... Rutgers went 7-25 last season.
Game 3: Nov. 20 vs. Milwaukee
DePaul and Milwaukee meet for the 14th time... the Blue Demons have won 12 of 13 all-time meetings... Milwaukee is a member of the Horizon League... the Panthers went 20-13 last season.
Game 4: Nov. 23 vs. Missouri State
The game is just the third all-time meeting between the two programs... the Blue Demons claimed both games from 1933-35... Missouri State and DePaul are both in the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic in December, but this game is not affiliated with that event... the two teams could also meet on Dec. 23 at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas... Missouri State is a member of the Missouri Valley Conference... the Bears went 13-19 last season.
Game 5: Nov. 30 vs. Drake
DePaul and Drake meet for the third straight season... DePaul leads the all-time series, 6-2... the Blue Demons posted a 74-71 decision in Des Moines last season... Drake is a member of the Missouri Valley Conference... the Bulldogs went 7-24 last season.
Game 6: Dec. 3 at Northwestern
The game is the second in a five-year scheduling agreement between the two programs... DePaul leads the series by a 20-11 margin... Northwestern recorded a 78-70 overtime win over DePaul last season at Allstate Arena... Northwestern is a member of the Big Ten Conference... the Wildcats recorded a 20-12 record in 2015-16.
Game 7: Dec. 6 vs. Lamar
Lamar and DePaul have played each other only one other time... the Blue Demons defeated the Cardinals, 61-59, on Jan. 15, 1980... Lamar is a member of the Southland Conference... the Cardinals went 11-19 last season.
Game 8: Dec. 10 vs. Temple (Hoophall Miami Invitational)
The game is the first of three neutral-site games for DePaul during the non-conference portion of the schedule... DePaul and Temple are meeting for the sixth time... the Owls lead the series, 3-2... the Dec. 10 game is the first between the two programs since the 2001-02 season... the Blue Demons defeated the Owls, 60-58, in Philadelphia on Dec. 22, 2001... Temple is a member of the American Athletic Conference... the Owls posted a 21-12 record a season ago.
Game 9: Dec. 14 vs. UIC
DePaul and UIC meet for the seventh time... the Blue Demons have won five of the six previous games... DePaul defeated UIC, 82-55, at The Pavilion last season... UIC is a member of the Horizon League... the Flames went 5-25 last season.
Game 10: Dec. 17 vs. Southeast Missouri State (Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic)
The first of two games at Allstate Arena as part of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic... DePaul defeated Southeast Missouri State, 57-50, in the only other meeting on Dec. 31, 2003 during Dave Leitao’s first stint as DePaul head coach... Southeast Missouri State is a member of the Ohio Valley Conference... the Redhawks went 5-24 last season.
Game 11: Dec. 19 vs. Chicago State (Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic)
The second of two games at Allstate Arena as part of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic... DePaul is 13-0 all-time against the Chicago State... last season DePaul posted a 96-72 win over the Cougars at Allstate Arena... Chicago State is a member of the Western Athletic Conference... the Cougars went 4-28 last season.
Game 12: Dec. 22 vs. Wyoming (Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic)
The matchup is the third all-time meeting between the programs... the series stands at 1-1... the game at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas will be the first meeting since a 68-29 win for DePaul at the Chicago Stadium during the 1944-45 season... Wyoming is a member of the Mountain West Conference... the Cowboys went 13-18 last season.
Game 13: Dec. 23 vs. Missouri State or USC (Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic)
DePaul faces Missouri State at Allstate Arena on Nov. 23... DePaul and USC could meet for just the eighth time... USC leads the series, 4-3... a potential game would be the first since the Blue Demons knocked off the Trojans, 89-78, in the 1979 NCAA Tournament at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles... the Blue Demons advanced to the Final Four that season and eventually finished third... USC is a member of the Pac-12 Conference... the Trojans went 21-13 in 2015-16.
