Garrett Opens NBA Summer League with Knicks

CHICAGO – DePaul basketball alum Billy Garrett Jr. opens the summer league schedule on Saturday with the New York Knicks. After playing for the Blue Demons from 2013-17, the Chicago native spent last season with the Westchester Knicks of the NBA G-League.

Garrett’s first professional season in the G-League saw him play in 50 games for the Knicks affiliate. He averaged 11.9 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists while shooting .454 from the field. The 6-6 guard saved his best play for the second half of the season as he scored at least 20 points in eight of the final 14 games including a pair of 29-point efforts in the final seven games.

His DePaul career saw him among the program’s all-time leaders in scoring, free throw percentage, assists and three-pointers. Garrett averaged 13.1 points per game over his career and finished with 1,632 career points to place him ninth on the program’s all-time scoring list. He was also the 2017 BIG EAST Scholar-Athlete of the Year, a member of the NACDA I-AAA Scholar-Athlete Team and the NABC Honors Court as well as the 2014 BIG EAST Rookie of the Year.

The Knicks are coached by new head coach David Fizdale and play three games in Las Vegas starting Saturday against Atlanta. The Knicks and Hawks can be seen on ESPN at 4:30 p.m. CT on Saturday. New York also plays Utah on Sunday (8 p.m. CT – NBATV) and the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday (7:30 p.m. CT – ESPN2).
