Coaches' Caravan Races Into Trackside in Arlington Heights
Sept. 9, 2010
CHICAGO -- The DePaul Coaches' Caravan made its third stop in Arlington Heights at Trackside at the Arlington Racetrack on Wednesday. Oliver Purnell along with the women's basketball coaching staff was on hand to welcome longtime season ticket holders, fans and DePaul alumni.
DePaul's Director of Athletics, Jean Lenti Ponsetto highlighted the upcoming women's basketball season in the absence of head coach Doug Bruno, who is currently with the USA National Team as they train for the FIBA World Championship, Sept. 23-Oct. 3.
After enthusiastically recapping the tradition of eight consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances by Coach Bruno and the women's program, Ponsetto introduced Purnell to a rousing and eager crowd.
Purnell, who mingled prior to making his way to the podium, spoke passionately about getting DePaul back on the National stage. He challenged the crowd to fill the Allstate Arena with their friends, to bring DePaul Alumni, wear blue and be loud while they cheer on the Blue Demons.
"Together we can," Purnell commented and his message resonated to all in attendance.
