CHICAGO - DePaul head coach Oliver Purnell announced today that Ivan Vujic has joined the staff as director of basketball operations. Vujic was in the same role with the Blue Demons from 2006-08 before working as an assistant coach at Northwestern for the last five seasons.
While in Evanston, Vujic worked with Northwestern’s post players while recruiting both nationally and internationally. The Wildcats posted back-to-back 20-win seasons for the first time in program history from 2009-11.
The Split, Croatia, native averaged 10.6 points and 5.7 rebounds as a senior at Valparaiso where he helped the Crusaders to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances in 1999 and 2000. He started his collegiate career at Vincennes University from 1996-98 and was named a fourth team junior college All-American by Street & Smith’s Magazine.
Vujic was a member of Croatia's U18 National team which placed fourth at the 1995 World Championships. As a member of the DePaul staff, he was an assistant coach in 2007 for the USA Basketball U19 team that earned a second-place finish at the World Championships. The squad featured NBA Draft picks Michael Beasley, Jonny Flynn, Stephen Curry, Patrick Beverly and DeAndre Jordan.
After starting his coaching career at BC Dubrava Zagreb, he then returned to Valparaiso where he served as an assistant coach for the 2005-06 season before spending the two seasons at DePaul.
