DePaul and WSCR Extend Long-Running Relationship for Two More Seasons
Sept. 24, 2013
CHICAGO - DePaul University and WSCR 670 The Score announced today that they have agreed on a multi-year extension that will keep men's basketball broadcasts on the station for the next two seasons. DePaul enters its 17th consecutive season on 670 The Score in 2013-14.
"The Score is pleased about the continued relationship with DePaul University and its men's basketball team," said WSCR program director Mitch Rosen. "The combination of the newly-formatted BIG EAST, the team's potential and the power of The Score should make for a great season."
The 2013-14 campaign is the 17th season of DePaul basketball on WSCR 670 The Score as the station remains one of the most popular spots on the dial in the Chicagoland area. The 50,000-watt station can be heard in 38 states and Canada. The Score has been the primary home of DePaul basketball since the start of the 1997-98 season.
"DePaul men's basketball and the University community are pleased to continue our partnership with The Score," said DePaul athletics director Jean Lenti Ponsetto. "DePaul is looking forward to bringing men's basketball to our alumni, fans and friends over The Score's airwaves for the 17th consecutive season."
DePaul opens the season on Saturday, Nov. 9 against Grambling State at McGrath-Phillips Arena. The Blue Demons return eight players from last season including top scorers Cleveland Melvin and Brandon Young. Young averaged 16.7 points per game just ahead of Melvin's 16.6 scoring average in 2012-13. A seven-player class of newcomers joins the returners as nine members of the 2013-14 roster are from the Chicagoland area.
In addition to the broadcast schedule, head coach Oliver Purnell will make a weekly appearance during the season to talk the latest in DePaul basketball. Schedules for both the broadcasts and the coach's show will be announced as they are finalized.
