Entering the 2017-18 season, DePaul returns six players including four starters from a year ago. Headlining the returners are senior Tre’Darius McCallum and junior Eli Cain. Cain led the Blue Demons last season with 15.6 points per game while McCallum averaged 9.7 points and a team-high 6.8 rebounds per contest.
Two of the top three scorers from last season return in Cain and McCallum while sophomore Brandon Cyrus was fourth on the team last season with 6.3 points per game. Overall, the Blue Demons return just over 60 percent of the scoring and nearly 80 percent of the rebounding from last season.
A total of 11 newcomers are on the 2017-18 DePaul roster including a graduate transfer, two now-eligible transfers, six freshmen and a senior. The freshmen class includes James Anderson, Jaylen Butz, Jason Malonga, Paul Reed, Justin Roberts and Pantelis Xidias while the graduate transfer is Marin Maric. Austin Grandstaff and Max Strus are now eligible to play after sitting out the 2016-17 season and senior Tobias Dwumaah has also joined the program.
In addition to the 10 eligible newcomers this season, transfer Jalen Coleman-Lands is sitting out the 2017-18 campaign after playing his first two years at Illinois. Anderson, Dwumaah, Malonga and Xidias joined the team in September as non-scholarship players.
