BIG EAST Coaches Make Preseason Picks

NEW YORK – The 2017-18 preseason coaches’ poll was unveiled on Wednesday morning as the league kicked off the season with its annual media day at Madison Square Garden. Villanova was selected as the preseason favorite while the Blue Demons were slotted in 10th place.

The Wildcats received eight first-place votes from the league’s head coaches and a total of 80 points in the poll. Seton Hall and Xavier also received a first-place vote as they were picked to finish second and third. Coaches do not place their own teams on their ballots.

Providence continued the preseason poll in fourth followed by Creighton and St. John’s. Marquette and Butler were seventh and eighth with Georgetown at ninth and DePaul in 10th.

Villanova’s Jalen Brunson was named the BIG EAST preseason player of the year while teammate Omari Spellman was voted as the freshman of the year.
