Senior Duo Helps Men's Basketball Win Final Exhibition Game
CHICAGO – LeVar Seals scored 18 points and Drake Diener added 16 as DePaul beat St. Edward’s 79-56 in the final exhibition game of the season at the DePaul Athletic Center.
The Blue Demons opened the game with a flurry, sprinting out to a 17-2 lead in the first five minutes of the contest behind six points each from Seals and Diener. The lead grew to as much as 19 at 34-15 with 5:06 remaining in the first half and DePaul took a 40-30 lead into intermission.
The Hilltoppers came out of the second half and closed to within seven (46-39) just four minutes into the second stanza but DePaul controlled the remainder of the game, sprinting away and pushing the lead to as much as 25 (79-54) with 1:33 remaining.
Seals and Diener were the only Blue Demons in double figures but freshman Cliff Clinkscales dished out a game-high eight assists and Marlon Brumfield grabbed a game-high seven rebounds. DePaul outrebounded St. Edward’s 40-28 and shot 48.4 (30-62) from the floor.
St. Edward’s was led by Chris Smith’s 17 points while James Gaskin added 14.
DePaul opens the 2004-05 season on Saturday when Bowling Green State comes to the Allstate Arena for a 1 p.m. contest that will be televised by Fox Sports Chicago.
