CHICAGO - DePaul plays the second of two games at Allstate Arena as part of the Cancun Challenge on Saturday afternoon against Austin Peay. The Blue Demons opened the event with a 71-59 loss to Gardner-Webb on Thursday night while the Governors dropped a 74-54 decision at Western Kentucky on Nov. 13. DePaul and Austin Peay are scheduled for a 1 p.m. start in Rosemont and both teams travel to Cancun for the remainder of the Cancun Challenge on Tuesday and Wednesday.

DePaul opened the season with a 91-59 win over UC Riverside at McGrath-Phillips Arena on Nov. 9 before the loss to Gardner-Webb on Thursday at Allstate Arena. Austin Peay stands at 1-1 following and opened the season with a 75-64 win over Samford before the loss at Western Kentucky. DePaul head coach Oliver Purnell is in his third season at DePaul and his 25th as a head coach at the collegiate level.

Following the Austin Peay game, DePaul travels to the Moon Palace Resort for a Tuesday evening game against Wichita State. The Blue Demons and Shockers play at 6 p.m. and the game can be seen on the CBS Sports Network. Zaidman and Blanzy will also call the game online at

Cancun Challenge Information: The 2012 Cancun Challenge is in its fifth year and is owned and produced by Triple Crown Sports out of Fort Collins, Colo. DePaul is one of four teams in the Riviera Division with Iowa, Western Kentucky and Wichita State. Each team in the Riviera Division will host two teams from the Mayan Division (Austin Peay, Gardner-Webb, Howard, Western Carolina) in the United States before all eight teams travel to Cancun.

DePaul hosts Gardner-Webb (Nov. 15) and Austin Peay (Nov. 17) before taking on Wichita State in the third game at the Galactic Ballroom at the Moon Palace Resort on Tuesday, Nov. 20. The Blue Demons then face either Iowa or Western Kentucky on Wednesday, Nov. 21 before returning to Chicago on Thanksgiving Day.

Noting the Blue Demons: The men’s basketball program is 1,385-881 (.611) all-time... the Blue Demons have knocked down at least one three-pointer in 581 straight games... DePaul’s last game without a three was Feb. 16, 1993 against UAB at Allstate Arena... the Blue Demons are 311-142 (.687) all-time at Allstate Arena... DePaul is 7-1 (.875) all-time in games at McGrath-Phillips Arena... the Blue Demons currently hold a seven-game winning streak against Chicagoland programs that includes victories over Chicago State, UIC, Loyola and Northern Illinois... in each of Oliver Purnell’s two seasons at DePaul, the Blue Demons have faced three Chicagoland opponents during the non-conference portion of the schedule with wins in each meeting.

It Could Happen: Cleveland Melvin needs 26 points to move into 49th place on DePaul’s all-time scoring list... he enters Saturday’s game with 961 points and is 25 behind 49th-place Dar Tucker (986, 2007-09)... Brandon Young (269 assists) needs one assists to break a tie with Jermaine Watts (269, 1994-98) for 21st place on the all-time assists chart... with 27 points, Young reached the 900-point plateau in his career.

Demon Doings: Notes following DePaul’s 71-59 loss against Gardner-Webb on Nov. 15:
- DePaul opened its 33rd season of play at Allstate Arena.
- DePaul extended its streak of consecutive games with a three-pointer to 581... the Blue Demons didn’t make their first three until just under 13 minutes left in the second half... the last time the Blue Demons failed to hit from beyond the arc was Feb. 16, 1993 against UAB at Allstate Arena.
- Cleveland Melvin finished in double-figures for the 50th time in 60 career games... he has scored in double figures in 16 straight games going back to the 2011-12 season.
- Brandon Young scored 10 points to reach double-figures for the 46th time in his Blue Demon career.
- DePaul was held under 60 points for the first time since Feb. 15, 2012 at Connecticut... the last time the Blue Demons failed to reach 60 points in a non-conference game was Dec. 8, 2010 against Indiana State.
- Thursday was the first meeting between the two programs... DePaul is 1-2 all-time against programs from the Big South Conference.

Who’s Next: All eight teams move to the Moon Palace Resort in Cancun, Mexico for divisional tournament play... DePaul faces Wichita State on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. followed by Iowa and Western Kentucky... Wichita State is 3-0 entering Saturday’s game against Howard... the Shockers went 27-6 last season and 16-2 in Missouri Valley Conference play... DePaul is 4-2 all-time against Wichita State... the two sides are meeting for the first time since an 83-62 win for DePaul in the first round of the NCAA Championship on Mar. 17, 1988.
