DePaul Handles Saint Louis 68-43
ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) - Imari Sawyer scored 19 points and Steven Hunter added 14 as DePaul beat Saint Louis 68-43 in the Conference USA opener for both teams Tuesday night.
The Billikens (5-4) managed only 17 points in the first half on 8-for-32 shooting from the field, while the Blue Demons (6-4) hit 9-of-29 to grab a 27-17 halftime lead.
DePaul pulled away in the second half, outscoring its opponent 41-26.
Saint Louis missed from all over the court, even on a couple of dunks. The Billikens finished 8-of-17 from the foul line and shot 17-of-62 from the field for 27.4 percent.
For DePaul, Lance Williams chipped in 12 points while freshman Andre Brown added eight points and nine rebounds off the bench. The Demons' leading scorer, Bobby Simmons, finished with eight points, nine below his season average.
Sawyer was 5-of-11 in field goal shots and a perfect 6-of-6 in free throws. He also had seven assists and six rebounds.
Marquee Perry, who played at Chicago Prosser High School, led the Billikens with 10 points and six rebounds.
