DePaul sophomore Jonathan Hewett took the first step in qualifying for the 2015 U.S. Open by winning the local qualifier on Monday. Hewett fired a four-under score of 68 at the Flossmoor Country Club to advance to one of 10 sectional qualifying sites in the United States.
DePaul freshman Freddy Thomas was named to the 10-member All-BIG EAST team in a vote by the league's head coaches. Thomas led the Blue Demons in stroke average this season and was the top finisher in a tie for third at the BIG EAST Championship.
