TAMPA, Fla. – The DePaul golf team started the Spring schedule with a pair of losses against Xavier and Cleveland State on Friday at The Match Play at TPC Tampa Bay. DePaul takes on Cincinnati in a consolation match Saturday morning.

The Blue Demons opened the tournament by falling in a tiebreaker against Xavier. Following the five individual matches, the team scores were tied at 2.5-2.5 forcing the match to fall under the tournament’s tiebreaking procedures. Xavier advanced to the winner’s bracket due to the Muskateers winning more holes across all five matches.

Maximilian Mayer and Russell Budd posted victories against Xavier while Charles Boucher halved his match. Ben Westley and Moritz Ackerhans were defeated in their matches. Mayer posted a 3-and-1 victory over Peter O’Neill while Budd won 4-and-2 against Aaron Siekmann.

DePaul’s second match of the day once again saw the Blue Demons come us just short as they dropped a 3-2 match against Cleveland State. All five individual pairings finished with 3-and-2 scores with Westley and Mayer winning their matches.

Two second-round matches are scheduled to finish on Saturday morning before the third round of matches begin. DePaul is scheduled to face Cincinnati in the third round.
