ORLANDO, Fla. - The DePaul men's golf team opened its Spring Season by splitting a pair of matches at The Match Play at the Reunion Resort on Monday.  The Blue Demons started their day with an exciting 4-3 win over Cleveland State and then were on the opposite side of a 4-3 score against rival Marquette in the afternoon.

"Overall, I was pleased how we played today," head coach Betty Kaufmann said after the day concluded.  "We played pretty well, but definitely have some things to work on."

Kaufmann got a pair of wins from Adrian Halimi, who was playing in the number seven spot.  The freshman started his day with a 2-1 victory over Cleveland State's Keith Brooks and then registered a 2-1 win over Will Joiner from Marquette.

In the early hours of Monday, DePaul was paced in its victory over Cleveland State by John Pavelko, Moritz Ackerhans, Jan Juelicher and Halimi.

Pavelko won his match in the second spot 5-4 over Michael Klaric III.  Ackerhans matched Pavelko's score, with his own 5-4 victory against Jon Riemer.  Juelicher defeated Michael Balcar 4-3 in the fourth spot.

Against Marquette, it came down to a final putt as the players traded holes and the match went back and forth throughout the afternoon.

Both Russell Budd and Juelicher halved their respective matches.  Budd had an 18-foot putt for birdie to win the match for the Blue Demons, but DePaul's top player was unable to sink the putt for the victory.

Moritz Hausweiler won his match in the number five spot, 2-1 over Michael Motz.

The Blue Demons close out match play against BIG EAST foe Seton Hall on Tuesday.  Alex Lloyd and Halimi tee off a 7:30 a.m. (ET).
