DADE CITY, Fla. - DePaul junior Ben Westley fired an even-par 72 over the first 18 holes at the USF Invitational on Friday. As a team, the Blue Demons are tied with USF in 14th place at Lake Jovita Country Club's South Course.
Westley is tied for 21st after his score of 72 on Friday. The junior eagled the par-4 third hole and posted scores of 36 on both the front and back nine. He is among 10 players in 21st place and five strokes behind the leaders.
Westley is followed by Maximilian Mayer in a group in 47th, Charles Boucher and Moritz Ackerhans in 64th place and Russell Budd in a tie for 90th. Mayer shot a 75 in the first round while Boucher and Ackerhans each posted a score of 76. Budd shot a 79 in his first 18 holes of competition.
Middle Tennessee State leads the 21-team field with a combined score of 275 (-14). North Texas is second with a score of 280 (-8) and Villanova is third at 283 (-5). Individually, four players shot a five-under score of 67. Conor Casey of Villanova, Carlos Ortiz from North Texas and two Middle Tennessee State golfers, Brad Simons and Hunter Green, are all tied for first place.
Saturday's schedule features the second round with 18 holes. DePaul is scheduled to tee off between 7:15-7:55 a.m. ET Saturday in groups with USF and Marquette.
