DELRAY BEACH, Fla. – DePaul freshman Moritz Ackerhans finished in a tie for second as the Blue Demons finished in sixth place at the Spring Break Championship this weekend. Ackerhans finished the tournament at five-under par.

After posting back-to-back rounds of 69, Ackerhans shot a 73 in over his final 18 holes. His five-under tournament total of 211 was the best 54-hole total for a DePaul player this season and his finish of second place was also the best finish for a Blue Demon. He finished in a tie with Alex Medinis of Florida Gulf Coast and was three shots behind medalist Brad Smith of Ohio State. Smith posted a tournament score of 208 (-8).

Just three shots separated the remainder of the DePaul fivesome at Gleneagles Country Club with Russell Budd and Ben Westley finishing in a tie for 33rd at 221 (+5). Westley carded a 74 on Sunday after shooting a 74 and 73 in the first two rounds. Budd made the Sunday circuit with a score of 75 to follow his first two rounds of 71 and 75.

Charles Boucher finished in a group in 40th place and Maximilian Mayer was tied for 44th. Boucher shot a 78 in the third round after scores of 72 and 73 while Mayer opened the tournament with a 76 on Friday and followed with 74’s in the second and third rounds.

Ohio State led the tournament from start to finish and won the team title with a score of 852 (-12). The Blue Demons were in second after two rounds, but dropped to sixth on Sunday. DePaul put together a team total of 871 (+7) and finished a shot behind fifth-place Minnesota.
