GLENVIEW, Ill. – DePaul golfers John Pavelko and Russell Budd both sit in a tie for sixth place after two rounds at Northwestern’s Kemper Intercollegiate Spring Invitational on Monday. Pavelko and Budd both carded a one-over 73 in the first round and shot an even par -- 72 in the second round which propelled the Blue Demons into fourth place in the team standings after day one at The Glen Club.
Monday started out picture perfect -- 60 degree temperatures, sunny and a little wind however; conditions deteriorate throughout the day and the golfers finished the second round in the rain and wind while temperatures began to fall.
The change in the weather did not affect Pavelko and Budd as they both carded four birdies in the second round after each recording three in the first round. The pair combined for 14 of DePaul’s 21 birdies on the day.
Moritz Ackerhans carded a one-over, 73 in the second round and sits in a four-way tie for 27th after finishing six-over for the day. Ackerhans’ 73 is the junior’s best round of the season.
Brad Stephens, who is playing as part of DePaul’s top five for the first time this year, is +15 and tied for 63rd. Adrian Halimi is tied for 68th after carding an 80 in both rounds on Monday.
Jan Juelicher, who is playing as an individual, is +13 for the tournament and is tied for 55th.
Northwestern leads the 14-team tournament field by six strokes after combining for a 567 (-9) score. Ohio State is six shots off the lead and Illinois State is in third place after carding a team score of 590 (+14). The Blue Demons are in fourth place with a team score of 597 (+23).
Jack Perry from Northwestern leads the field and is 10-under for tournament after carding a 67 in both rounds on Monday.
The final round gets underway on Tuesday at 8 a.m., while Halimi is the first to tee off for the Blue Demons at 8:45 a.m. Budd is the final DePaul player to hit the course and will begin his round at 9:21.
